Cafés in Berlin: New Deli Yoga

05

Maybe it’s because of the weather, maybe it’s because they care so much about the decoration, maybe it’s a cultural thing… but the truth is that all the cafés in Berlin are so amazing. It was one of the first things that caught our attention when we arrived in the city. No matter when, no matter where, you will find a cosy café to drink a nice tea or coffee and enjoy a delicious piece of cake.

Each of them has its own style and personality, taking care of every single detail: little candles on the tables, old restored furniture, chalkboards and drawings on the walls, nice plates and cups… all in all creates a wonderful atmosphere that makes you enjoy your tea even more.

As the winter was quite hard, we got he chance to discover a few ones. What else could we do when it was -10 and dark at 4pm?

One of the first cafés that we discovered was New Deli Yoga, in Kreuzberg. It was one of our first weeks in Berlin, and actually, one of our first days in the neigbourghood of Kreuzberg, where is this café located. We were wandering around and discovering the area and the place caught our eye from the outside. When we came in, we were impressed by the big wooden table that was in the middle of the room, a white natural light space with chalkboards hanging on the wall and corners with little tables and sofas. When we got the card, we realise that it’s a yoga centre too. That was very surprising. And actually, once inside, you are be able to see a big empty room in which the classes take place.

Even though there wasn’t a wide variety of cakes, everything looked so great and homey. We decided to eat one piece of cake (Bratapfel Kuchen) and one muffin (Renates Apfel-Walnuss Muffin), it was so good. Although it was cold outside, we drank a delicious strawberry milkshake. In the menu though there are also soups, salads, sandwiches, among other lunch and breakfast healthy options.

The waitress was very kind with us too. As we were still a little bit lost in the city, she explained to us her experience and a few tips that were very useful to us.

We will keep writing about our favourites cafés in Berlin during the following posts. We have a lists full of lovely ones. We still have more to discover though!

  1. I went here when I visited in March and it was a pleasant respite from all the walking I had done that day. The lady serving was really nice and friendly as well. i think they have a little gallery in the back as well?

  2. Also a cafe I really liked was Neues Ufer in Hauptstrasse – right next door to where Bowie and Iggy Pop lived in the 70s. AMAZING cake, nice background music and good vibe.

    • Thank you Gemma. We won’t miss this cafe for sure then! I am glad you enjoyed New Deli Yoga too! When we were there we didn’t see the little gallery though, it was quite long ago! :)
