Flea Markets in Barcelona: Brick Lane Bcn and Fleadonia

Last Sunday I kept discovering the Flea Markets in Barcelona. I would say that every weekend there is at least one organized around the city. Some are bigger, some outdoors others indoors, ones only sell second-hand objects, others are from handmade clothes and designers… anyway, the offer is growing more and more and these markets are becoming a new activity to spend the sunday in.

Last weekend was the turn of Brick Lane Bcn Market and Fleadonia, both located in the neighbourhood of El Raval. El Raval is becoming one of the most trendy quarters in Barcelona. It’s located in the centre, in the old historic part of the city. New restaurants, clubs, unique shops, hip bars… live together with the old and historic buildings. It’s a multicultural and lively area, though it’s true that you’ll find a large immigrant population and it is said to be a dangerous area. But anyway, it’s a place you have to discover if you are visiting Barcelona.

I first visited this Londoner market located in El Bigote de Sr. Smith, a coworking and exhibition space in El Raval. The space was small and you had to pay 2€ entrance, but then you could have a free beer, and it was full of clothes that were worth it! Vintage pieces as if you were in the authentic Brick Lane Market in London. Bags, necklaces, jackets, dresses, pattern scarves… There was a DJ and Lolita Bakery was selling its delicious cup cakes, cookies and cakes.

From Brick Lane I went to Fleadonia. A totally different market, also located in El Raval, but in the lower part. This was a real outdoor flea market selling second-hand goods, such as clothes, books, accessories, old cameras, antiques… you could find too handmade pieces and designers creations, paintings, and many many different stuff at a very accessible price.

You could feel a very familiar atmosphere, an occasion to put all the neighbours together. This initiative is organized by Freedonia, a Cultural Association that creates different events and workshops and has the intention to program this flea market once a month, in fact they have already planned another one for the 28th of October. There were several DJs playing all day and an open terrace to have a drink and enjoy the beautiful weather that we had.
