Treptower Park and Insel Berlin
Now that the summer is over, a sense of deep melancholy is coming to us. The warm weather, the long sunlight and the green trees are becoming memories to keep in mind.
As we look back, we remember many moments of our summer in Berlin, such as the day we went to the Berliner Island. Yes, did you know that there’s an island in Berlin? Believe or not it exists and it’s located in Treptower Park.
Treptower Park is one of the largest parks of the city and as the name indicates you’ll find it in the neighbourhood of Treptow (East Berlin). Famous because of the Russian monument (Soviet War Memorial), the park has 88,3 hectares. The fact that it’s along the Spree makes it a summer-essential, so you should not miss the chance to visit it during this time of the year.
There are many things that you can do here. There’s nothing like laying on a blanket in the grass and chill a little bit, maybe playing guitar or drinking beer. If the weather is good, what Berliners really enjoy is a barbecue, specially on the weekends. But the summer highlight is without doubt the chance to get on a boat and sail on the river.
Berlin has more than 2.500 public green spaces. Living in a big city and having the possibility of feeling surrounded by all this nature is just something incredible and hardly to find in other capitals of the world. The trees, the water, the people, they all create a special atmosphere that makes this city even more pleasant.
